Let me introduce you to Herman.
Herman is… a canvas. But also not just a canvas. Herman is where all the leftover paint goes.
Washing a lot of perfectly good paint down the sink feels...not great. Not great for the environment, and not great for the water needed to clean up materials.
So instead, we started putting leftover paint onto a canvas.
No plan, no design, just whatever was left at the end of a class. A swipe here. A brush there. A blob that felt important in the moment.
And now? Herman is kind of amazing. He is a perfect example of what we believe.
That art doesn’t have to start with a perfect idea.
That something beautiful can come from “leftovers.”
That a bunch of small contributions can turn into something really meaningful.
He’s collaborative. He’s unexpected. He’s a little chaotic.
We love him.
There’s something about knowing:
You don’t have to start from scratch
You’re adding to something bigger
There’s no “right” way to do it
No overthinking. No pressure. Just… I’m going to add this color right here and it works. It always works.
At Noel Art Studio, we’re not just teaching techniques.
We’re showing kids that:
creativity doesn’t require perfect materials
ideas can grow over time
and art can come from literally anything
Even the stuff you almost washed away.
We’re opening our studio in La Mesa / San Diego College area this August, and yes, Herman (and a few of his canvas friends) will be there.
